How to put your Tesla in Neutral (Gear)

Tesla Model 3 Interior

At first glance, there seems to be no obvious method of shifting your car in to "N" or neutral gear.

To make it simple, we coined terms like "Full-Pulland "Half-Pull". Full-Pull is when you pull the right stalk all the way down to select "D" to drive or all the way up to select "R" to reverse. While doing that, you feet a slight "resistance". Half-Pull is when you don't pull all the way up or down, but stop at that resistance.

To put your car in "N" or neutral

  1. If you're in "D" or drive, do a half-pull in the upward direction and hold it there for 2 seconds. The gear indicator should change to "N" at this point.
  2. If you're in "P" or "R", do a half-pull in the downward direction and hold it there for 2 seconds.  The gear indicator should change to "N" at this point.

Note: this is different than putting your Tesla in "P", which is the parking gear.
